The Sussex Spires Federation are looking for a Clerk to the Governing Body who is reliable, confident, and good with people and with an interest in school governance. You will need skills in good administrative practice and experience of minute taking. You will also need to be confident in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and email, and have access to the internet at home.

As the Federation enters into a partnership with St Mark’s in September 2024, we are looking for a Clerk to support both Governing Boards, as well as a small Partnership Board.

The majority of hours will be home working, along with attendance at meetings at all three schools, most of which are in the evenings.

The successful applicant will be able to work effectively with the Chair of Governors, Executive Headteacher, School Business Manager and the governing board to secure the continuity of governing board business. They will be able to advise on procedural and legislative matters to ensure the Governing Boards work to the legal framework, as well as have an understanding of the importance of confidentiality.

Tasks include the preparation and circulation of papers, attendance at meetings, minute taking, maintaining a business calendar and coordinating policy reviews.

It is recommended that applicants either hold a relevant award (BTEC level 3 in Clerk to the Governing Board or equivalent) or be prepared to work towards the East Sussex Clerk to Governors Accreditation Scheme.

This post is covered by the Childcare Disqualification Regulations 2018.
The school will need to ensure that they are not knowingly employing a person who is disqualified under the 2018 Regulations in connection with relevant childcare provision.  Accordingly, the successful candidate will be required to demonstrate to the school, by completing a self-declaration form as part of the pre-employment checks process, that they have not been disqualified under the 2018 Regulations. If the preferred candidate is found to be disqualified under the 2018 Regulations, the offer of employment will be subject to the application by the preferred candidate to Ofsted for a waiver and the receipt of a waiver from Ofsted.
