Would you like a career improving road safety on the roads of East Sussex?

If so, by joining the Road Safety team, you will help to deliver the Council’s statutory and core road safety functions to promote road safety, investigate collisions, and take appropriate measures to prevent such crashes.

The Road Safety Team helps to reduce injury on the roads, improves traffic management and enables increased use of sustainable forms of transport to reduce our carbon footprint.  Our work touches almost all aspects of county life by providing vital services for residents, businesses, and visitors across East Sussex. By putting people at the heart of what we do, we are investing in the health, environment, education, infrastructure, and economy of our local communities.

By joining the Road Safety team you will gain expertise in Road Safety Audit, technical standards, traffic signing, passive safety, and national best practice. This will enable you to develop viable solutions that will reduce risks to all road users and provide advice to internal and external partners on all aspects of road safety policy and practice.

You will be responsible for managing you own workload, including complex matters with demanding deadlines, ensuring that customers and external partners receive a high customer experience. You will be responsible for planning and organising programmes of works and see such schemes through to completion.  Training and support will be provided to enable you to develop your skills and embark upon a rewarding and diverse career with us. In doing so, will lead to the opportunity for career progression within the team.

We are looking for candidates who:

  • Have a strong customer focus
  • Have a positive attitude towards making a difference.
  • Are computer literate.
  • Are keen problem solver.
  • Have strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Are able to manage a wide range of projects and meet deadlines.
  • Are able to work on your own and positively interact with the wider Road Safety Team.
  • Are able to travel across the County for site visits and meetings.

This post works across the County and will be based in any of our offices in Lewes, Bexhill, or Heathfield. There is flexibility around start and finish times and the opportunity for a mix of home and office-based working as part of a hybrid working model.

Closing date: Sunday 21 July 2024

Interviews will be held week commencing 12 August 2024 at County Hall, Lewes. If you are unavailable on these dates let us know and we may be able to schedule an alternative date to interview you.
