Due to expansion, the Fire Safety Department at East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service has opened a recruitment pool for applicants interested in any of the following vacancies:

  • Non-operational Fire Safety Advisor (Trainee)
  • Non-operational Fire Safety Advisor (Qualified)
  • Non-operational Fire Safety Inspecting Officer (Qualified)

These are non-operational roles, which means that you do not need to be a member of any Fire & Rescue Service to apply.

For the Fire Safety Advisor (Trainee) role, we welcome applications from candidates who may not necessarily have any formal fire safety qualifications. For the Fire Safety Advisor (Qualified) role, we welcome applications from candidates who have a qualification at Level 3 in Fire Safety or equivalent. For the Fire Safety Inspecting Officer (Qualified) role, we welcome applications from candidates who have a qualification at Level 4 in Fire Safety or equivalent.

These positions will be primarily based at one of our three Fire Safety hubs being that of Hove, Eastbourne or Hastings. However, you will be required to work, subject to service requirements, at any of these locations, so a degree of flexibility is essential. Service vehicles will usually be provided where available to accommodate this. You will require a full clean UK Driver’s License as the role requires travel across East Sussex.

Candidates who are successful at the application stage will progress to a panel interview and then enter the recruitment pool.  Thereafter they will be offered posts as they become available for the period that the pool remains open – usually two years.

Due to the nature of these roles and associated safeguarding, a DBS check is mandatory, and will be funded by ESFRS for applicants once a conditional offer has been made.

These posts may be subject to contractual training agreements for retention of appointed candidates who are successful in the process.  Any such agreements will be clarified before final offers of employment are made.
