As the Deputy Head of Pensions, you will work closely with the Head of Pension Fund to oversee the strategic and operational management of the ESPF Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS). You will be responsible for ensuring the efficient delivery of services with a focus on governance and compliance and employer engagement, driving improvements, and leading a team of dedicated professionals. Your role will involve engaging with key stakeholders, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, deputising for the Head of Pension Fund, acting as a financial steward and contributing to the development of our pension strategy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Head of Pension Fund in the overall management and strategic direction of pension schemes.
  • Lead and mentor a team of pension professionals, fostering a high-performance culture.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to enhance service delivery and operational efficiency.

We are looking for someone who is striving to develop in their career taking on this important role a Deputy Head of the Fund. You will:

  • Have proven experience in pension scheme management, with a deep understanding of the regulatory landscape.
  • Have strong leadership skills with experience in managing and developing teams.
  • Be a strategic thinker with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

This role will be based on flexible working with some meetings in the Lewes office or at external stakeholder offices. The salary starts at £69,401 with excellent benefits including a generous defined benefit pension (Local Government Pension Scheme), discounts to a range of services such as technology, shopping, days out, gym membership as well as a bike scheme. Lewes is a beautiful market town with great train links to London and the wider East Sussex community.  Lewes is a great place to shop with so many independent, antique and quirky shops. It’s also great for cafes and coffees shops to grab some lunch or ideal for a lunchtime walk around this historic town.

Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is part-time or term-time only.

Work Permits: we may be able to obtain a Work Permit for this post but this is subject to meeting the requirements of the UK Border Agency’s Points-based Immigration System.
