Heritage and planning

The Government sets the framework that our Archaeology team and local planning authorities use to ensure the conservation and enjoyment of the historic environment of our local area. See the:

The Archaeology team:

  • advise on archaeological significance before planning applications are made
  • make recommendations to planning teams to make sure that any remains are preserved or recorded
  • work with developers on the level of archaeological work required to discharge planning conditions and we monitor the standard of the work carried out
