Local Transport Plan 2 (2006–2011) – introduction and summary

Covering 2006–2011, our second Local Transport Plan (LTP2) identifies 115 road safety and 1,000 road maintenance schemes to be rolled out over the next five years. The plan examines all the factors influencing travel behaviour in East Sussex.

LTP2 sets out what we are going to do to achieve a safe and efficient transport system for East Sussex. We are required to publish this five-year plan by the Government.

Vision and objectives

Our vision for transport in East Sussex is a thriving county, where every resident enjoys:

  • an enhanced quality of life with improved travel choice and access to employment opportunities and local facilities
  • safer and healthier communities
  • a cleaner environment that is valued, protected and improved for future generations.

Our objectives are to:

  • improve access to services by providing greater travel choices and influencing land-use decisions
  • manage demand and reduce the need to travel by private car
  • improve road safety and reduce the fear of crime in communities
  • reduce congestion and improve the efficiency of the transport network
  • protect, promote and enhance the environment
  • improve maintenance and management of the transport network.
