Rye Local Area Transport Strategy

The Rye Local Area Transport Strategy (LATS) sets out the framework for transport investment in the town to 2012. A set of key objectives has been identified, from which the following transport proposals have been developed:

  • enhancement of pedestrian and cycle routes and the construction of crossings
  • improvements to the junction of Rye Hill, Military Road and Deadman’s Lane
  • development of coach parking and drop-off point
  • improved bus stops and a transport interchange to link different types of public transport, eg trains and buses
  • School Travel Plans for local schools
  • a review of parking management
  • road junction and traffic management improvements
  • improvements to Rye Harbour Road and its junction with the A259
  • new signs giving greater priority to pedestrians instead of vehicles
  • partnership working with relevant local businesses and organisations.

These proposals may be made in the short, medium or long term and are subject to funding.

We developed the Rye LATS in partnership with local town, parish and district councils, Rye Steering Group and Transport Forum. These groups will also play a key part in the development of the transport improvements.
