Woodlands

Ashdown forest

About 17% of the land in East Sussex is woodland. Much of this is ancient woodland, dating back to at least the 1600s.

Most of the wood we use in the UK is imported, which means that some woodland in East Sussex is neglected because it is no longer part of the local economy.

By promoting local wood products through projects such as Woodnet, we can support sustainable woodland management, encourage wildlife and create local rural employment.
